So… what do we know about The Bannister and Shamrock?

Apparently, the Bannister & Shamrock is not just a fictional fake Irish Pub, but a virtual fake Irish pub, to boot!
It appears in the frankly-incomprehensible-to-me-what-the-attraction-is area of the net called Second Life, and I would imagine the clientèle to be raucous, garrulous, booze-swilling types with a penchant for some good old-fashioned banter and sing-songs.
Mind you, I could be wrong about that last bit.

The proprietor of that virtual pub is clearly a fan:
The Bannister & Shamrock* pub –
A music venue playing punk, funk, psych, indie, electronica, anything alt-, post- or space-, and weird and wonderful sounds from around the world.
Basically we specialise in everything EXCEPT the autotuned Top 40 fodder forcefed to you on most sims. If you fancy DJing a set (tips only!) then give me a shout.

Yet another 100 year old plus piece of Leicester bit the dust for… …..a car park. The Firkin Brewery Co. has something to do with the song me thinks.
In a previous 1990s The Pride of Leicester was The Physio and Firkin and hosted some great gigs upstairs – quite a few Sorted Records related events with such as The Freed Unit, Voon and John Sims, some amazing Maureen Anderson Shapeshifter nights and stuff like cult electroists Silver Apples, and even the odd acoustic thing downstairs. Saturday 1st of March 1997 was a night to behold, A 3-1 Victory at Wimbledon was followed by a mad dash back to Leicester and the Gig at the Phizz, A truly spell binding gig, I’d love to get the Biscuits on in Leicester again at a small venue before I die.
Seems a surefire way to get a pesky historic Victorian pub ‘out of the way’ of ‘progress’ is to put some live music on at it – hence RIP The Royal Mail, The Spreadeagle, The Magazine, The Pump and Tap, etc etc. Hang the Bastard who is known as Soulsby.

The Pub on New Walk would be better, especially if the Inferno is on.

Well spotted Toastkid. I somehow missed the asterisk and footnote with regard to the name of Iain Lordhunter’s virtual pub.

I thought this would be a good time to say hello, as I’ve recently procured 4 kegs of ale from Poland for peanuts as it’s dated to be drunk by March 14. So if you fancy a cheap pint and some tunes, get yourself uploaded into the matrix and come and say hello. Brian was spot-on about our clientele, and if you say who sent you, I’ll throw in a pickled egg. Gratis.
