The odd interview I’ve read with Mr Rollins has not inspired me to “check out” his work at all, so the sum total of my knowledge of him is that he’s hard – a fact I drop into conversation whenever his name comes up in music related discussions.

I think he hosted one of those Scrapyard Challenge/Robot Wars type of shows. Panders to his macho, masculine side, I suppose.
It surprised me that his political leanings are to the left. I’d wrongly assumed he’d be Ted Nugent-esque in his views, given his posturing.

His surname at birth was Garfield, which pandered to his ‘looking like a large ginger cat’ image.

He’shosted animal programmes on the National Geographic channel too. I’ve never seen them, I’d imagine that he wrestled with tigers and alligators and the like.

Sitting in for Iggy Pop on R6M for the next three Friday evenings, probably playing Tygers of Pan Tang, Balham Alligators and the like. Personally, I would have been much more inclined to listen to Black Flag if they’d been fronted by Gordon Rollings.

Would we take Gordon Rollings?
Hell we’d take Andy Rollings!
We don’t need no re-Roll…

@Dr Desperate – I think he might surprise you. He does a weekly show on public radio (KCRW, Santa Monica), repeats are available online and generally a good listen. The last two episodes have included Bootsy Collins, Yabby U, Wire, the Fall. Charlie Parker, Joy Division, Lightnin Hopkins, Roxy Music, Bowie, Scott Walker, PIL, the Adverts and Kraftwerk. Plus a load more obscure (to me, anyway) stuff that I’ve been happy to discover. I’m looking forward to hearing what he’ll do on 6.
