If you Google “Isten Hozta”, the tenth result is an episode of South Park about Vladimir Putin (in Hungarian, obviously).

Pronounced ‘ish-ten ‘hoz-ta with the latter vowel sound being a schwa.
Bit of an archaic greeting. I never heard it in my eight-year sentence over there. Undeniably religious, it translates as something like ‘God brought Thou’, with the second person being used in the formal sense.
Not something Honvéd fans would say to Ferencváros ones.

Actually, not a schwa, but we don’t really have an equivalent ending sound. It’s more like the ‘o’ in ‘cot’.

If you pronounce it like Costa (Coffee), it’s close enough for most practical purposes.

Good point, but the ‘z’ needs pronouncing, not an ‘s’…

I wouldn’t bother, it only makes you sound overly pedantic, like H-adding.

‘Overly pedantic’! I’ll take that as a badge of honour on this site. :)
