My maternal grandmother was Margaret Constance (qv) (always known as Connie because she disliked the name Margaret). Why she named her daughter Constance Margaret (always known as Margaret because she disliked the name Constance) is anybody’s guess.

Now that’s for sure. Overall in the UK, it’s just outside the top 500 girls’ names with only 83 babies named that last year, below Chelsea (91 babies), but above Chantelle (40) and Jordan (just 6). As you say, probably not the case in Barnsley though.
