One of those bands you stop listening to when everybody’s into them.
‘Slow Show’ – what a song – was my tune in ’07 when suffering from one final bout of unrequited love. Never again.

dickhead in quicksand
I always seemed to get the Duke of Albuquerque in the office sweepstake – mad Portuguese amateur who would take an early lead, then fall off and break something after a fence or two.
I remember a bookie being interviewed on TV after the Foinavon National. Everyone had put a quid or two on the local horse, and the greedy bugger hadn’t laid any of it off. I’ve never seen anyone standing outside a big house with two large cars in the driveway look quite so miserable.

Once described as ‘in Liverpool, but not of it.’ A bad day on which to have to go to work in a call centre in Aintree. The 2013 winner paid for this computer (THAT’S ENOUGH BOASTING – Boasting Ed.). Hardly ever won by grey horses. Once won by Dobbin. May yet be won by his wife.

Really should be sponsored by Winalot… Or Findus… Or Tesco.

Old APPLEJACK
Less of the horse maiming these days following fence changes and other improved safety measures.
Going to be run at 5.15 this year, for some reason.

Going to be run at 5.15 this year, for some reason not unconnected with the fact that modern life is rubbish. Almost certainly NOT going to make the life of sports sub-eds any easier that Saturday afternoon.

Quite a few hosses get killed every week at various meetings. Why should Liverpool have all the fun.

I’m listening to The National’s High Violet, trying to get into it. I’ve loved Anyone’s Ghost for a long time so I thought I’d really try to like the album, but that singing I don’t know. Anyway then it dawned on me it’s all a bit Coldplay but with even worse singing. So my question is: are The National ok to like, or more of a Paintball’s Coming Home type band and does anyone have an opinion of which bands are acceptable and which PCH? Some are obviously ok e.g. The Fall, others obviously PCH e.g. Sheeran, but what about Morrissey and Chumbawamba?

It’s okay to like whatever you like.
A bonus if you can irk the purists at the same time.

Everyone with a Bet365 account note that up to 11.59 am you get the place part of your e/w bet free. Doesn’t help when it falls in the second furlong though.

If you want your PBR, and fancy a fun bet at a big price into the bargain, look no further than Freewheelin Dylan. You can still get 50/1, (the @66s have all gone as the penny finally dropped that his Irish Grand National victory last year is not such a shabby piece of form!), and if he can avoid misfortune (a big if in the national, I know) he’s capable of running a big race. GL all.

I recommended Freewheelin Dylan to a Bobcat friend last year, forgetting that he was also big into animal rights. Won’t do that again.
We’re on Any Second Now.

I wouldn’t put anyone off backing Any Second Now. I feel certain that he will place if he stays out of trouble, but I just feel that he might find a couple of the lighter-weighted youngsters too good for him…

There are other EBRs of course. Commodore (36/1) has won once, twice, or three times a season in 4 of the last 5 seasons.
Fiddler on the Roof (16/1) is well fancied in some quarters and if I were a horseman, I would execute the fallers who up-ended my good rides.
But being a lover of the ancient bardic traditions I’ve got more on Longhouse Poet than anything else.

Good advice there, @FF. Shame we couldn’t get on Firstmanintospace.

Nice profit for the EBR Fiddler on the Roof (& Dylan if you took 7 places), and my Longhouse Poet didn’t let me down for the place money either.

In commenting that I thought Any Second Now was vulnerable to a well-handicapped youngster, I did not have Noble Yeats on my list. Great race and great story. Pity it was such a good day for the bookies though.
Good effort from Freewheelin Dylan. Hope that, unlike me, those of you who backed him chose one of the bookies who paid for the first 7…

Thanks all. I made £1.70 on the race thanks to your tips. Splendid.
