The owner (can’t be arsed looking up his name) went to my old school and named the chain after one of his teachers.

Good wifi, cheap food, in-house magazine has a crossword and a quiz, and often you’re in spectacular surroundings – the one in Edinburgh New Town springs to mind first but there are many, mant such. But it’s all about trying interesting ales for £1.10 per half. If that’s too expensive there are lots of nooks and crannies so plenty of potential for just bringing your own can of lager and pouring it into their glass, and you’d generally get away with subtly eating your own sarnies too, and picking up someone else’s receipt for your expenses.
Some of those who knock ‘Spoons don’t seem to realise what a rip-off most of the food & drink industry in the UK is (and yes I’m including everything from rents to business rates to tax levels in that, I know how hard it is for independent food & drink places to make money and they should be better helped).

By the way there are no fewer than 5 ‘Spoons pretty much in a straight line between Leeds station and the gig.
Got any spare vouchers, Andy?
If he posts them now first class this afternoon, you never know. The e-mails eventually told me that I “did not meet the minimum requirements” for the Xmas sorting jobs, so they must have some bloody excellent people.

Just remembered that the only pub I’ve ever been barred from was the Spoons in Worcester for confronting an obnoxious Polish fella about his white power t-shirt at the end of the last world cup final, when much beer had been taken.
They ruled in his favour ‘cos “he says he’s not a Nazi”.

Bobby – I guess it’s too late to wonder how Tim Witherspoon got away with stabbing Frank Bruno’s wife?

The joke went like this, “Hey that boxer who beat Bruno the other week has stabbed his wife,..erm,Tim something”….”Witherspoon”….”No with a knife”. Boom Boom, Shit I know but it was 1986.

Above average sketch show from c2005, which preceded either Peep Show or Green Wing. Very much a thinking person’s Man Stroke Woman. Charlie Brooker contributed, and ex-children’s TV presenter Josie D’Arby starred. Probably rubbish but I thought it was quite funny at the time (cf Man Stroke Woman). Altogether now, “And try to keep your knickers on this time.”.
