Two chevrons are the logo of both Citroen cars and the Chevron oil company. Is keeping two chevrons apart also some sort of allusion to the commercial rivalry between these two firms?

“Department of Transport. Change the “Keep two chevrons apart” signs on motorways to “Keep one chevron apart”, then save a fortune on paint by simply missing out alternate chevrons.”

TRANSIT FULL OF KEITH
The Chevrons were a New York based doo-wop band in the early 1960s. Their major hit was called “Lullabye”. They were co-founded by Terry Cashman, then known as Dennis Minoque, and John “Marty” Trautman.
As with Climie Fisher in later years, a feud between the two of them over royalties erupted into smear campaigns, threats issued in the back pages of obscure trade journals and irregular violence. In 1967, Cashman was issued with a restraining order preventing him from going within 200 yards of Trautman. This was immortalised in the well-known phrase “Keeping two Chevrons apart”.
