It’s Gerhard Richter’s controversial 1965 oil painting ‘Onkel Rudi’, transferred (with his trademark ‘blur’ effect) from a photograph of his Uncle Rudi in Nazi uniform. It’s been described as ‘arguably the greatest anti-portrait in 20th-century art’, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the line in the song is a direct reference.

One might even have imagined Nigel seeing it at Tate Modern’s ‘Panorama’ Richterospective, except 90B(C) came out two weeks before it opened.
