Willy van der Kerkof, brother of René who caused the 1978 world cup final to be held up after taking to the pitch with an offensive weapon.The Argentinians were frit shitless at the sight of René wearing a plaster cast on his wrist. This was another act of blatant cheating by the hosts who’s win left a sour taste. The Dutch were 2 inches away from winning the world cup when Rensenbrink’s last minute shot cannoned off the post.

Willy was the star of the ZX Spectrum games, Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy, designed and coded by Wallasey-based teenage programmer Matthew Smith, who also wrote a game called Styx (q.v.)
