So here’s where the hard choices started to have to be made. And it’ll only get worse. Plenty of interest, with at least 222 and as many as 341 people voting for each match. One or two scores were close enough that they must have gone to penalty shootouts (“great drama and no pressure on the ref”), and there’s bound to be as many glum faces on the terraces as there will be delighted small children skipping gaily home. But that’s web-based favourite-song-polling for you.
The draw for the Last 16 Knockout Round will be at 3.45pm today, during half-time at the FA Cup Final Sponsored By “Ten Pence Off” Lenor.

Those last two were mighty close.
Well, a couple of shocks, based on any insight we might have gained from the voting in the qualifying stages – I didn’t expect to see “We Built This Village” losing to “JDOG”, or “Running Order” (number 8 highest rated song from the qualifiers) losing to “Evening Sun”. But the biggest upset was clearly in our Super Sunday match, with the number 10 song from the qualifiers, “National Shite Day”, turning over the top seed, “AOR”. But hey, anything can happen…
We also lost the number 4 song from the qualifiers, “Garage People”, but only because it was unfortunate enough to be drawn against the number 2 seed, “Chatteris”. That’s now installed as the new bookies’ favourite, closely followed by “Bastard Son” and “The Light at the End of the Tunnel”. Our outsider, now we’ve lost “Secret Gig”, is “Monmore”. But that could all change when the draw is made for the last 16.

There are a few songs there that I am sorry to see losing but the biggest disappointment for me is seeing the back of Turned Up Clocked On Laid Off. That is one of my favourites. Never mind, there’s always next year.

I’m as sick as a parrot that Honved were seen off by a jingle. Someone must have got to the ref!
I’ve a feeling that Mr Wilson will be the one to beat. Though having said that National Shite Day must also be a strong runner.
Bring on the next round!
Come on Stoke!

I think the way is open for Country Practice now.

An absolute scandal that Vatican Broadside has made the last 16. But that’s the magic of the cup I guess.
Think I would like ‘Vagaries’ to win now. A song I’ve only really come to fully appreciate thanks to theh Lux Familiar.

Surprises for me – Trumpton and Shite Day getting through so easily, JDOG bridging the gap, VB only just making it and, particularly after the recent surge (ho ho) in support, that Surging just fell short. Still, 12 out of 16 for this correspondent, shame we lost Squabble Fest, Vitas, Trad Arr and Dukla Prague.

Ten out of sixteen for me. Gutted about “Surging”. Should’ve got the family to vote.

Agreed Chris.
That and AOR

6 out of 16 for me – gutted about AOR, Trad Arr & Squabble Fest. Seems to be greater support for the newer material

Gutted that “AOR” lost out to a “talkie”, albeit a good one. I had high hopes for “Convalescence” too.
“Vitas” losing out to “Monmore” is very disappointing too, seeing as it is the superior song in my opinion. A bad round for the “McIntyre” lads. Ah well, such is the magic of the cup…..
Delighted for the “JDOG” boys though.

Some really close matches and some great disappointments. This round looks tasty – this is more fun and already I can feel the vacuum when it’s over.

Well it confirms to me that I’m in the minority, in almost every case. I love HMHB but some of their most pedestrian of songs have made it thru. Oh well, I’ll ignore this now, all the great ones are out.

Magic of the cup? Spheroids! Shite Day better than AOR? No! Nay! Never! Joy Division Oven Gloves is strolling stark-bollock naked along its catwalk with its subjects afeared to point out the obvious. Vitas demolished by Monmore? Pah. ‘Pah’, I say. And ‘Pah’ once more. I will cast an eye on Dean Friedman’s progress, but to no avail no doubt, (A Country Practice is polishing its mantelpiece as I type) then I shall return to playing golf, and discussing PBRs, with Andy Partridge – or, as he puts it, ‘All the World is Biscuit Shaped.’

Pleased Monmore made it through , but Honved out to the Pope and Slipknot? Come on ….

I voted for 7 losers in the 16 ties.
Surprising to me to see Broadside, Paintball’s, and Purists poll well (the third of those in reference to the strength of its opponent).
So my prediction is fairly worthless but I think ACP is still a worthy favourite. It has a tough tie this round and NSD has already accounted for strong opposition in the last round. It’s bound to be a cracker.

I voted for 11 of 16 but still feel gutted.

I saw 5 of my choices eliminated, but console myself that 3 of these were seen off by a total of just 16 votes. (Had I known it would be so close, I could’ve used the works’ computers to tip the balance.) The only real disappointments were the relative spankings handed to TUCOLO and Squabble Fest.

5 out of 16 i voted for got through.
Am i missing something, no This Leaden Pall got through? AOR Lost?
Crazy times we live in..

Cannot believe (but secretly a bit happy) that Dukla Prague crashed out. Looking at the comments, that looked as one-sided as they come. Think I got 12 out of the qualifiers.

Interesting to note from Chris’s overview of the albums there, that my least favourite (I know, its all relative but one has to be the least favourite) album Cammell Laird has the highest representation. Its a funny old game.

TWO FAT FEET
I was more intrigued to see that my second favourite album Bridgwater (behind Cammell Laird, natch) was wiped out in the first round. Even Godcore got one through, although that was by default given the way the draw worked out.

Still reeling from JDOG’s defeat of Trad Arr. I realise its an insight into what AV could have brought had the referendum gone the other way. Trad Arr won when voting for the album by 117 to 110, but add the ‘second preference’ votes, trad arr only gets 3 more whilst JDOG gets a further 17. Is it more deomocratic? Is JDOG really the Ed Miliband of the last 16?

Called 12… wondering if there was some sympathy or tactical anti-voting going on… can’t believe we’ve said goodbye to Vitus and The Purists… but then again City bea Utd and raised the cup (Yay!) so anything can happen! Bring on the Finals! Vagaries or Chatteris for me…

Looking back at this, I still can’t believe that Dickie Davies Eyes lost to the vastly inferior and wildly overrated The Light At The End Of The Tunnel (Is The Light Of An Oncoming Train). Something should be done to change this result.
