OK, the draw for the last round went well enough, so here’s the plan for this one: as there’s a fair bit of golf in the songbook, on Friday night I’ll pair up the remaining songs with 16 of the players who’ve made the cut in the British Open, and the songs will take their place in the draw based on the final tournament scores by those players on Sunday teatime. Sadly the players this year won’t include Jodie Mudd, Craig Stadler, Greg “The Shark” Norman or Jack “The Bear” Nicklaus.

OK, the players are allocated, and let the golf begin. The resulting draw will appear here on Sunday evening.

FEATURELESS TV PRODUCER STEVE
Just irking the purists, CtSO? Any golf snob will tell you it’s The Open, not the British Open.
(Oops. You’re right of course. – CtSO)

I trust you have all the gear you will need in your wardrobe.

IDIOT SAUL
Poor Eddie Pepperell. Even an easy par four must be a challenge with restless legs.

So the golfers decided… and there are some big ties coming up. Standout may be a repeat of the 2011 final which could still go either way (it’s worth reading all the comments there). I think some of these might be very close.

Transit full of keith
I think Terminus will be still evading capture, still at large, after this round. Dark horse to make the final? Thoroughly deserving if so.

Pirx The Purist
All pretty clear cut for me except for #8.

Of my 8 selections to get through to the SCOH round only 6 can progress further.
‘Tis a cruel thing the LFC.

Match 4 has penalties written all over it. Match 1 will see a premier song out.

24, Terminus, AOR, Trumpton, Light, Chatteris, National, Wrong Grave

The harbinger of nothing
Wow. I’ve got a 50-50 split between easy wins and score draws. There’s one 8-0 drubbing and one which was 4-4 AET, with both keepers having to take penalties…
21 July 2019
Two faT feet
Four easy ones for me, one a bit meh – and for the last three I really won’t be comfortable voting against either.
My selections though : 24HGP, Vagaries, AOR, Trumpton, Light, Chatteris, DPAK, Legs
Predictions :
24GHP 52%
Terminus*
JDOG 54%
Trumpton*
Light 63%
Chatteris 59%
NSD 62%
Legs 50.8%
* still insufficient data on the songs from the latest album to calculate a score, so once (well, twice) again I’ve gone with my own expectation. If either make it through to the quarters I will have enough to work with.

In the event I’m missing there being a voting site, my picks:
Tuna Sweetcorn, Grey falls on the green, Polishing the Nave, Cut Your Hedge, Uncle Joe’s Ashram, Weavers Cottages Devoid of Tenants, Embrace the Margin, Milky drink and Sudafed

How do we vote, Chris?
22 July 2019

Voting will start this afternoon. I’ll put up a couple a day, for seven days each.

Just checked out some live recordings of AOR and it has to do well. An absolute classic. Only four songs left in from my top 32….disappointed but hey ho they’re all great at the end of the day.
22 July 2019
Chris The Siteowner
And don’t forget during the 2015 competition, the band put this on stage…

How have we ended up with this lot?
22 July 2019
Chris The Siteowner
Er… because they’re good? Worth noting that all of the 14 songs here which were around in the 2015 competition were in the top 25 then. Enduring popularity.

It might be difficult to devise a Round of Eight draw based on christening invites.

And aything connected to the sky fairies would presumably get a significant element of boycott.

Are there any odds on the last 16, Paddy Power? Skybet? fancy an e/w on Terminus.

I found it tricky to decide when it was the first round. Now it’s like choosing which of your possessions in a fire! Despite voting, I think if I did it again tomorrow I’d probably pick different ones..
25 July 2019
Seany mac
Blimey. Some cruel Sophie’s choices here… Head vs heart, club vs country, etc. Some very surprising contenders, like Terminus, Clocked On et al. Marvellous.

ETABR v Trumpton in the last 16? Torture in every tie.
25 July 2019
Dr Buck
Chatteris v ACP. Nightmare, damn those balls. Both are what I would use as gateway drugs for the uninitiated. Think will have to go with the genius of “Sting singing on the roof of the Barbican”.

I cannot vote for Germany again, NSD.
Left arm occasionals were noted at Holmfirth.

This is mental. Mrs has threatened to leave me because I voted for Natinal Shite Day over Dukla Praha away kit , where will it all end? For me. It’ll be in the Leadmill, Sheffield in September, and then some too. Hussah

DOCTORBADVIBE
DPWK V BSD? It’s like choosing your favourite child.
25 July 2019
Cream cheese and chives
Those ties- with the humidity and heat each choice is even more of a torment. The expectation grows. I am reminded of Des Lynam and his “Shouldn’t you be at work?” line before the England game in some World Cup or another.
25 July 2019

Some pairings seem particularly apt
Once there was Joy Division, now Everything’s AOR
Every Time a Bell Rings there’s a fire at The Trumpton Riots
Turned Up Clocked On looking forward to The Light at the End of the Tunnel
For What Is Chatteris… but an ideal place for A Country Practice
All I Want For Christmas Is A Dukla Prague Away Kit but that dodgy transformer gave me a National Shite Day
Tending The Wrong Grave and there’s worms are flying through the mist, it’s just my Restless Legs

Vagaries v Terminus?
After several back-to-back plays I still couldn’t put a fag paper between these two. I was just about to toss a coin but in the end…

When are the results in for the SCOH Chris? (I’m sure it’s been posted, but I’m such a slack get I can’t remember and now I can’t find it)
