There we have it; 16 mighty songs through to the next round. The seeding meant that the result of most matches was fairly convincing, although Bad Wools only beat Bottleneck by a slim margin. Restless Legs and Wrong Grave also only had fairly narrow victories. 2019 semi-finalist Garage People was a notable casualty, as was 2019 quarter-finalist Them’s The Vagaries.
In terms of ‘eras’, here’s how they performed:
1985–1993:
3 out of 8 got through
1995–2000:
0 out of 6
2001–2008:
10 out of 12
2011–2022:
3 out of 6
Nice to see 10 different albums/EPs represented in the last 16.

Eight matches out of eight in the second half were called correctly by Two Fat Feet, our official in-house analyst/predictor (two called within 5%), so overall, 14/16 were called correctly and 5/16 within 5%. One of the incorrect calls concerned Oblong of Dreams, which came with the ‘not having enough data to predict any new song to win in this round’ caveat; the other was Restless Legs’ fairly narrow victory.
(Update/Correction: Apologies to Bad Loser for forgetting who was the official in-house betting advisor!)

The ‘draw’ for the 16 Camps Of Hope round will take place at the weekend; see the ‘Next’ link above for details on how it’ll work.

Indeed I had insufficient data to have any reliable gauge for Oblong; while I still only have one result to go by, such a convincing victory over a quite highly-rated song makes it the overwhelming favourite at his point, with the defending champion second. Restless Legs now lies rather restlessly as the outsider.

Terminus eliminated??? The situation is lean, indeed.

@TFF: Looking forward to the predictions for the next round, once the draw is made.
@BL: I share your pain. I think we have to accept it’s not going to be a song which makes the jump to being accepted as a classic beyond the connoisseurs (who obviously adore it).

Good Lord – utterly shocked by the elimination of Terminus. Sad to see Look Dad No Tunes, Vitas and Broadstairs go as well.

Just another lackey
Terminus out already? Really? I always thought of this as a place of sanctuary among like-minded folk. But no, even the 21 fair-weather voters who didn’t get past match 1 couldn’t have swung the vote in favour of the bard’s greatest lyric. Tough draw though, would have been a different result on another day…

Good grief! I’m glad I didn’t vote and so am not in any way implicated in the travesty of Terminus and Dickie not getting through.

Some questionable VAR calls in game nine. Carrie, Corin and Janet not happy.

Dickie has to be the major shock there no?
Didn’t think Bad Wools’d have to go to 9th round of sudden death penos to see off Capel Curig either.

Pleasing to see that my theoretical post Baguette Dilemma Round outright odds (comment #33, BDR results thread) correctly predicted 15 of the 16 winners with, in many cases, the difference in odds being fairly accurately reflected in the outcomes. The only failure was Match 4, where I’d given both tracks equal chance, mainly based on 24 Hour GP’s run to the semi-final in 2019. Seems I once again underestimated the love for Chatteris. I’d still make OOD a short-priced favourite, with only NSD, AOR & TLATEOTT posing any sort of threat.

Was there a problem with the site earlier this week? Wouldn’t load when I remembered to vote and seemed to be offline for almost a day. Could access other sites so it wasn’t my connection.
Anyway now I’ve seen the results, especially 3, I’m going full Donald Trump and claiming that Terminus won, the election was stolen and people should storm something or other.
(Votes didn’t stop coming in for any measurable period, so I don’t think there was a general problem – CtSO)

Stupendous work Lux, which I should have acknowledged. Look forward to the revised odds once the draw is done.

THE BASTARD IN THE HAT
I was so outraged that Look Dad No Tunes lost so heavily to Bob Wilson Anchorman that I went and rewatched two cover versions by my friends. Now, with their permission, you can too: from 2022 https://youtu.be/KgLF2hm39W0 and from this July https://youtu.be/OfkwmT3YHcA. If anyone can post any cover versions of BWA that are even half as good, I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Cheers Chris. I was going to post some revised pre-draw odds, but instead I’ve just been perusing the Tour of Britain stage 7 results & trying to work out the actual draw for the last 16. I won’t give anything away, other than to say the love for Chatteris will be rather severely tested.

Can’t believe Terminus has an early exit again! Will maybe do better in 2027 when it’s considered a “classic”.
