The Light at the End of the Tunnel (is the Light of an Oncoming Train)
vs.
Bob Wilson – Anchorman
Here we go then with the Last 16, and two of the favourites are up against each other straight away. But what will the light at the end of the tunnel be for The Light at the End of the Tunnel?
Result
The Light at the End of the Tunnel
(is the Light of an Oncoming Train) 244
vs.
Bob Wilson – Anchorman 134
Big Con
The draw was good but never going to match that for the round of 32.
A fair 11 out of 16 of the teams I supported got through to this stage.
It’s a shame the crowds aren’t a bit bigger though, still Bob Wilson just shades this 4 v 3 on the i-pod.

TWO FAT FEET
Tricky one to call, but after a lot of deliberation I went with the one I felt less comfortable voting against. I think that makes sense.
No good me consulting the jog-proof ipod because it would have been a 4-4 draw, but TLATEOTT(ITLOAOT) wins on sudden death penalties. Bob Wilson himself was observed to raise an eyebrow during the post-match analysis.

Big Con: don’t encourage them, the boys are only going to hold out for even more Curly Wurlies and Panini stickers now. 257 views on YouTube have gone to their heads a bit.

A couple of my personal favourites going head to head. The opening tracks of the first new EP and album after my re-introduction to HMHB following a twelve-year period of obliviousness.
In the end, I plumped for The Light At The End, for the tune, for the sentiment, for employing the word ‘ascertain’ and for the Old Time Religion ending.

Lee’s Twenty First
On the basis that we put it down as my son’s favourite song when he started school and that his teacher actually downloaded it from iTunes and played it in class: has to be Bob Wilson, Anchorman.

TWO FAT FEET
Good job it wasn’t Vatican Broadside then.

2 Chevrons
Voted for the one I’d be more ‘gutted for’ if it failed to get through.
Listened to them both and Jim Rosenthal and Wailing Wall popped up with a late winner for Bob.

It has to be The Light At The End Of The Tunnel, end of. Easy win here, over by half time.

Third Rate Les
Bob Wilson seems like a nice simple one, although it has that amazing “raining soup” bit too. Bit more substance to Light At The End though – over the full 90 mins the quality showed through with a fairly processional victory. They’re both ace live numbers too.

Wrong that you should make me choose between the two. Should have been the final surely!
OK, light at the end of the tunnel. On penalties.

After the trials and tribulations of the results its good to get straight back on the pitch. Has to be TLATEOTT(ITLOAOT).

Dave Cooper
Bob Wilson, simply because you can hear the disdain dripping from Nigel in almost every line.

ANOTHERSHITSEASON
Bob Wilson via a hotly contested penalty.
Manager sent to the stands. Away end bogs smashed.

My wife makes a big noise about not liking HMHB, but I once caught her singing along to Bob Wilson as we headed down to our caravan (static, naturally).
Therefore an easy win for the ex-Arsenal stopper for me.

It has to be TLATEOTT(ITLOAOT) if only for the fact that quoting the intro got me published on the letters page of the Guardian.

Tunnel sneaks it for me. iPhone provided validation.

Oh horrible choice! This should have been a quarter- final at least. If ever there was an argument for seeding…Still, magic of the cup and all that.
I really can’t decide right now. Gonna have a walk around overcast Croydon and see if I can come to a decision.

Agreed – horrible choice ! Judging by the comments it’s going to be close too.
I’m going to vote in 30 minutes when I have repeatedly listened to the pair of them one after another a few times.

OK – in the end it was easy enough. There’s so much more to TLATEOTT(ITLOAOT). Both still great though.

I went the other way. I asked everybody in Kazakhstan, and they said..

Ouch, tricky one! I think the tune and richness of the wordplay in Tunnel shades it over the belly laughs of Bob. The beak in Leek is weak, brilliant!

As my wife owns cd’s by both Buena Vista Social Club and Eva Cassidy, Tunnel gets it but only by the thickness of Mrs Gibsons jam spread on a wafer thin wafer.

Bob Wilson sneaked it as I’m currently listening to Editors Recommendations, however it was very close

Mary Hopkin must despair.

The light at the end of the tunnel is the light of an oncoming train……so apt ! .:)

Two of my favourites but Bob Wilson just gets better every time you hear it.

Too hard to call.

Bob Wilson is growing on me but not enough to beat the Tunnel which has the best here we go start of any of their songs.

Close call but it has to be TLATEOTT(ITLOAOT)
