A Country Practice
vs.
Tending The Wrong Grave For 23 Years
It’s true, there really are no easy games at this level. Yet another two favoured by the bookies coming out of the last round.
Result

Tending The Wrong Grave For 23 Years 137

I fancy The Wrong Grave will itself be dead and buried fairly soon…

Agreed. Time for Wrong Grave to concentrate on the league.

TWO FAT FEET
Two more that I couldn’t see myself voting against unless they were drawn together (the fifth being Damnation which, sadly, didn’t make the station).
Having forced myself to confront their respective weaknesses in order to differentiate, all I could come up with for ACP was the occasionally impenetrable lyrics (the first verse is as wtf as it gets with Nigel) and the T for Toxteth coda which does jar a bit, with all that has gone before being so superb). The bass line and what I guess is a synth track make it such a strong track musically, while the weather forecaster line and the millennium verse are right up there among the best lyrics.
Tending The Wrong Grave has a great premise, sounds great and only has the spoken word bit counting against it, if only because it too is a bit oblique in places.
So, tough decision but Wrong Grave lives on for me.

Goodnight Claire Raynor, ACP all the way (until the inevitable draw with Shite Day in the quaters..).

Wow! a tough, tough draw again!
However, after much consideration, surely the last thing ‘Wrong Grave’ will see in this competition is ‘Sting singing from the roof of the Barbican.’

Always thought the ‘T For Toxteth’ section of ACP was one of NIgel’s finest moments! Nevertheless, TTWGF23Y is a personal top 5 song, and shades it.

Still can’t understand all the fuss about ACP, a monologue that gets boring on a few listens. Had to vote for Wroing Grave, even though it’s not a personal fave…..which all seem to be out of the cup already. Boo.

I’ll ignore that…it might go away.

Neither of these are in my top ten… had considered a tactical vote to perhaps get through the weaker subling giving my remaining faves a better chance… but not sure I’ve got a handle on how people are voting… or even which is better… time to play paper scissor stone with myself…

TTWGF25Y – no comment.

Wrong Grave for me, by a narrow margin, and I’m not even sure why. Maybe ACP is a smidgen too much of a ‘talkie’, though the tale of Adrian-stroke-Sophie’s “Blowjob” make for an entertaining couple of verses, and I quite like the T for Toxteth/Tennessee/Thatcher/yodelling finale.
Dammit, I may have just talked myself back to ACP.

Wrong Grave, easily.
That wonderful intro and the opening verses are blindingly good, the “let’s complain” his best throwaway line, then the wandering off into the meadow of consolation, then the fantastic rhymes. Maybe my single favourite song of theirs, give or take my other favourite twenty.
I find my mind wandering in ACP, even in concert. So does Nigel’s, by the look of it. Not even close, although looks like I could be in the minority.

The toughest draw in the round, I reckon. I really don’t know what to do. I’ll have to come back tomorrow. Or the day after.

Ah, these are a few of my favourite things…
…but ACP gets my vote. A masterpiece compared to a cracker. They’re not getting any easier.

I thought ACP would walk this but by the look of the comments the plucku under dogs could well spring a surprise here, maybe sneak a draw, take them back to their place. ACP won’t like the compact ground, fans right on the touchlines, bobbly pitch, jumpers for goalposts hmmm…

Isn’t it all supposed to be a bit of craic? Talk of tactical voting and the like is “my head no end do in”

@TWO FAT FEET
I think you need to hear Jimmie Rodgers Texas Yodel in order to fully appreciate the greatness of the whole yodelling section

I’ve decided to abstain from this vote. I would vote for both of them.

back @anidlelayabout
well yes, I can see what that’s all about but it still spoils it a bit for me. Usually I can ignore it but in these circumstances every slightest thing needs to be taken into consideration.
as far Dave Cooper speculating about a replay, I don’t think ACP would like kicking up the slope either, never mind all the gravestones in the way.

I think I’m beginning to get a glimpse of the reality of manic depression. Such highs and lows in close proximity cannot be good for the soul. ACP by sheer weight of the evidence.

@ : Look Dad
This? A good craic ? It’s about as much fun as a tope attack,
As a Bottleneck from Capel Curig to Thelwall and back,
As a coach trip with weather forecasters who opine
While eating June’s egg sandwiches to the dreary whine
Of Annie Lennox and Sting and Bono on the stereo again,
As the coach bumps over the eternal sleeping policemen.
@ Gregg Z:
When they played in the Garden of Eden,
Were you executed for all your own goals ?
‘Cos it seems to me you’re the reason
For the recent disquiet in our souls.
I’d thought all His creatures were equal?
But now some are more equal than others,
And your idea was the prequel
To Biscuit brothers turning on brothers.
I don’t want to think about how it could be
That “Chatteris” turned on “24HP”,
And somehow it’s town brass band CD
Conspired to knock out Lead Belly,
And his fine selection of fillings.
It’s shocking, it’s cheerless, it’s chilling.
Biscuiteers debating different degrees of brilliance?
It’s shattered my serenity, strained my resilience.

Ferenc Puskás to you
The opinionated weather forecasters line is the match-winner for me. Fact(s).
