More giants fall by the wayside as we get to the sharp end. There’ll be a lot of very disappointed diehards trudging home tonight, and not just in Barnstoneworth. Take your aggression out in the comments.
The draw for the Quarter Finals will take place later over the weekend.

Ouch. Bob Wilson, NSD, Wrong Grave and Dean Friedman all had a lot of fans, I know, so that’s going to hurt. Me, I got 6 out of 8 winners, so can’t complain that much. Anyone get all 8 of theirs through?
6 out of 8 quarter-finalists are from the last three albums, with just ACP representing the 90s and Trumpton representing the 80s. Cammell Laird is now flexing its muscles, with 3 through to the last 8.
Don’t ask me to guess which song’s going to win though. Looking back at the predictions I made at the outset, I only got 4 of the quarter-finalists.

Ouch. What dread this upon the spume ? Terrible forebodings. If Chatteris can beat NSD then United do perhaps have a chance tonight.

…and only 3 of the top 10 from the group stages have staggered through to the last 8. The bookies are loving this.

Ooh, NSD defeated by the plucky underdogs from East Anglia.
It’s up for grabs now.

Only four of my choices through to the quarters. Still, there’s nothing in the last eight I’d point to as thoroughly undeserving.

4 out of 8. Gutted. Especially so with NSD being beaten. Stringy Bob will be turning in his grave.
The only, meagre consolation is that the VB pretender was itself broadsided.
Hate mail being composed for the Mayor of Chatteris…

Delighted to see the Chatteris giant-killing. The romance of the cup and still the envy of the Fens.
NSD probably thought it only had to turn up.

I’ve never really been able to classify HMHB songs into their unique genres. Maybe there’s a meeja studies undergrad out there who’s looking for a final year project. But one thing’s for sure: there would be an HMHB genre headed “football”, and none of its songs have made the last eight.

I always suspected this thing would get skewed by social media ‘campaigns’.
Just done a google and spied at least one twitterface campaign for Chatteris. Who’s to say the voters even knew both songs ?

Like they said on last night’s HIGN4U, you might not be able to arrest 75,000 people ….but they should definitely try to get as many of them as they can. They can use my garden as some kind of holding pen if they want.

Sad to see Shite Day and Wrong Grave bite the dust, and perplexed that Evening Sun is still going strong (a very kind draw though). Top half looks likely to provide the winner now, with Oven Gloves odds on for the final from the bottom half
Latest odds just in:
Trumpton EVS
Joy Division 7/4
Chatteris 3/1
Tunnel 9/2
Country 6/1
Swing 12/1
Vagaries 14/1
Evening Sun 33/1

Blimey, I had 7 of these. Mr. Populist. I must have my finger on the pulse. But who’s pulse?

Blimey Nick, long time since I’ve seen a market over 200%. You won’t be around long in these competitive times.

FWIW Charles, there were no surges of votes for any song in any match (I was watching out of interest), and in most ties (including Chatteris vs. NSD) the eventual winner was ahead throughout the voting. The conspiracy theorists will be dismayed, I’m sure.

5 out of 8 for me, and still two of my predicted final four in the hunt (the other two having been knocked on the bonce by Chatteris). What an epic battle that was with NSD.

3 out of 8 – as with the previous round and group stages I’m definitely out of sync with the populace!

Gutted that NSD lost an all-time classic with so many lines that literally make you LOL. FWIW I just dont “get” Chatteris. Its a pleasant song and all but nothing knee-trembling for me. My least fave of the 8 left in it but as I only got 4 of the 8 winners last time out, wht do I know?

Got to admit, kids, I’ve voted for the wrong ‘un in every single round. I love McIntyre so no luck there, and since then I’ve voted for the loser in nearly every knock-out match. My (nonexistant) money was on Bob Wilson as the quintissentiall Biscuits song… and then you all prove me wrong. My only consolation is that my favourite three remaining, Trumpton,Chatteris & Swing, sounds like a Middlesex opening bowling attack… That’s a 1-out-of-5 for me tonight, least I’m not a United or “Boring Boring Barca” fan.

That’s, d’oh, 1-out-of-8. Which, in a very real sense, makes it worse. And that’s me using up me comma quota for the year…

I’m getting the overround of Nickinko’s book at 160% which, while hardly offering the shrewd punter any value for money, is at least better than Exxo’s alleged 200%.
I am more than happy to lay all runners at Nick’s prices, except Chatteris and Country Practice. Those wishing to avail themselves of these generous odds may find me standing at the Cartmel racecourse this coming Bank Holiday Monday – look out for an unnecessarily gaudy sign bearing the name “Honest Patch Perkins”.

Blimey, and so Chatteris marches on. I think NSD were probably still recovering from the previous round against AOR to be able to field a fully fit side. Methinks in hindsight AOR may have stood a better chance, certainly a few more traditionalists would have gone that way.
TLATEOTT gave a very impressive showing there, against quality opposition as well, a dark horse perhaps?

At first glance I was a bit shocked but when you look at the quality of the teams left in, with the exception of Evening of Swindon who just got an easy draw, there is no-one undeserving in the quarters.

Chatteris and Vatican are the only two i wanted to see through, and JDOG still punching above its weight i see.
