So this time we thought we’d have a bit of direction from the junior member of the household, and a bit of input from the computer. Worst of all worlds, if you ask me. Still, we managed to get a Rose Bowl into the proceedings. Duff Leg Bryn might grudgingly approve. Anyway, here we go…

So that’s:
A Country Practice vs. Them’s The Vagaries
The Trumpton Riots vs. Joy Division Oven Gloves
When The Evening Sun Goes Down vs. The Light At The End Of The Tunnel
Evening Of Swing vs. For What Is Chatteris
Gasps from Vagaries at it gets thrown to the wolves of ACP. Trumpton v JDOG might have been an expected final. Cammell Laird is guaranteed a semi-finalist. And Evening of Swing thrashed the Vatican, but will it now get knocked on the bonce?

Hasn’t Chatteris had a rough enough time with the draw already? It’s made it this far but how many more bullets can it dodge?

Third Rate Les
Kind draws for Chatteris and Light At The End (etc.) perhaps.
No idea about the other two. Long-winded rant verses more (pause) song-based bit of genius, but much as I love Vagaries I wonder if it can progress.
Trumpton vs. JDOG is a mouth-watering fixture though. 80s riot nostalgia vs. more recent belter. Windy Miller vs. Picallili shinpads. Boys from the fort vs. the Quakers. It’s the battle of the big crowd-pleasers, and I suspect Trumpton will win because, despite JDOG’s superior lyrical imagination, the older one seems more authentic to the kind of people who distrust the whole idea of big crowd-pleasers.

Going through the quarter final matches:-
In an ideal world, A Country Practice and Thems The Vagaries would be my final of choice. I cannot choose between these 2 at all – They’re probably 1 and 2 in my favouritest HMHB songs
Joy Division vs Trumpton – this is a battle of the high publicity songs…
tough one – but I think Trumpton probably gets it for me.
Can’t see Evening Sun getting past The Light At The End (although it’s probably getting my vote)
And in the final match – I think this is as far as Evening Of Swing will go, and the semis is as far as Chatteris will go.
from the *shudder* round of 16
I’m impressed that Vagaries got past Paintball and Chatteris got past National Shite Day
Disappointed (but not surprised) that Monmore lost to When The Evening Sun Goes Down
putting personal preferences to one side, I’m expecting ACP, Trumpton, TLATEOTT & Chatteris to reach the semis

Two Fat Feet
Predictions-wise I’m with you except possibly with Trumpton. Its latest adversary seems to have this JDOGged (ho ho) tenacity which enables it to grind out a result week after week. I can see it being an ACP v Chatteris final though, barring the inevitable tough draw for the Fenmen (oh sorry, that’s Wisbech isn’t it?) in the semis.

The Mayors of Ely & St Ives
Vote anything but Chatteris. 6-fingered weirdos, the lot of ’em there.

Trumpton vs JDOG is the least interesting draw for me. Never liked Trumpton particularly. JDOG is great for jumping around to but it’s got very little depth compared to most of the other contenders.
ACP v Vagaries is a great shame. It would have been better as a semi or the final.
Evening Sun vs Tunnel. Ouch. This is a tough one to call.
Evening of Swing v Chatteris. I prefer EOS. Chatteris doesn’t do it for me, I’m afraid.

Shouldn’t there now be a Europa League-type consolation competition for the valiant losers? A sort of poisoned chalice event that no one can avoid, but really doesn’t want to travel to Minsk to fulfil the fixture?

Theres only 3 songs left that would even be in my top 30 or 40 😛 Hopefully form will out in the latter rounds and one of them will take home the trophy!
