Evening Of Swing (Has Been Cancelled)
vs.
For What Is Chatteris…
The last representative from CSI:Ambleside takes on one of the two survivors from Achtung Bono. Evening Of Swing (Has Been Cancelled) did well to get automatic second-placed qualification from the group stage, then won a scrappy local derby against Bad Losers before slaughtering Vatican Broadside. New tournament favourite For What Is Chatteris… won an extremely tough group and then found itself having to see off the mighty Twenty Four Hour Garage People and the equally fancied National Shite Day. It’s got here the hard way, but at what cost?

Chatteris – because it is pure unadultered genius.

EoS(HBC) for the simple reason that Chatteris is a one-trick pony – like the town – that knocked out NSD.
Sour grapes? Yes, in abundance…

First comment here. I’ve been an engrossed bystander since today.
There’s just something about Chatteris that takes the song onto a higher plain. Funny, poignant, musically straightforward but somehow beguiling. I’ll stop now. Before I put people off it

No contest mauling handed out by Chatteris, a very comfortable 3-0 with the Chatteris keeper hardly breaking a sweat.

TWO FAT FEET
Am actually considering voting against Chatteris for the second round in a row. Evening of Swing has developed into another which I struggle to conceive of voting against. Now faced with the stark reality, once again, of two songs I would not normally consider voting against, it’s time for some more soul-searching.
However having failed to find one I suppose it’s back to objectivity. Chatteris – lyrically flawless and musically sound-but-not-spectacular. EoS’s strengths lie in the opposite direction – musically it’s superior, lyrically it’s not perfect but not far off. Of the two, it’s less clear what it’s actually about but when you get a verse as untouchable as the one which comprises both the description of the christening party arsehole AND the sarky satnav, you have something special.
Do the drive-by shouting, the first class cakeshop, Ofsted plaudits and numerous other poetic zingers tip the balance towards Chatteris? I’m going to live dangerously and vote for Evening of Swing, partly for the excitement of going with the underdog that just might do it, and also because I know it probably won’t make a hap’orth of difference to the result.

Chatteris continues its progress Stoke City like towards the final ,showing the touches of underrated subtlety that the fans notice and the media are too lazy to comprehend .

Have supported EOS throughout this tremendous cup run,..but unfortunately the innevitable ravine looms up against Chatteris. A brillant solo strike by A.Nightingale at the Berkley Square end seals it FWIC. A super smashing singalong to get any crowd up for it.

Chatteris is to this tournament like Barcelona is to the Chumps League… can’t see anyone even causing it a wobble…

Evening Of Swing for me. It’s a song which has risen considerably in my personal estimation over the course of the tournament, whereas Chatteris has remained at much the same level. I appreciate I’m farting against thunder, but I shall try not to let the seemingly inevitable crushing defeat upset me too much.

I’ve been rooting for a Chatteris vs JDOG final so this is nice and easy for me. Despite Mr Ed’s best efforts, Evening of Swing’s cup run could be plunging headlong into a ravine….

Can anyone help me on this one??
Need to know if the Jon/John Byrne mentioned in RSVP is the singer (a mate of mine from Barrow) or the ex QPR player?
Any help appreciated

Evening of Swing for me – musically far superior and lyrically no worse. Much as I like Chatteris I never realised it was regarded as one of their best!

I think the consensus was that John Byrne was just a name that fitted the song. Quality track and I wouldn’t have been surprised to see it still hanging in there at this stage had the new songs not been so cruelly denied entry.

Got to be Chatteris….for me Evening of Swing is Biscuit by numbers, that and Light at the end of the Tunnel. Good, but not great.

I think I’ve had an epiphany of sorts. I’ve played and replayed and replayed these two and I think I’m getting bored of Chatteris. I’m sitting here thinking if I had to choose one song to represent HMHB to the unitiated it would not be Chatteris. Good as it is it doesn’t reflect their brilliance like so many other songs. That said, Evening Of Swing doesn’t either, but I now feel that Chatteris has to be stopped so it’s a tactical vote for me. Then I’m off to the launderette to wash my urine soaked jeans.

BIG CON
Tactical voting ????
So that’s how Dukla Prague got knocked out by Trumpton having beaten them in the group stage.
I’m starting to wonder if there’s been some match fixing going on ????

I haven’t got FIFAs budget so no chance. And there’s been plenty of others before me. And we all know it’s pissing in the wind anyway.

‘Evening of Swing…’ for me, never understood why Chatteris is so popular.

For the simple reason of opening the song with a mention of Glyder Fach and Glyder Fawr, its got be Evening of Swing. And if there is an antoi Chatteris (too smug by far) bandwagon, then let me on it. Seriously though, a very close call, but in the play off I was struck by the nice jangly guitar on EOS, which just edges out Chatteris.

Never cared much for Evening Swing and Chatteris is a charming little devil. Easy decision for me.

I don’t know if it’s true that the Countryside Alliance are behind the pro-Chatteris voting shenanigans, but at gigs, I’ve always regarded Chatteris as a “nip-to-the-bogs-time tune”, whereas Evening of Swing is always one of the big guns.

Chatteris – it’s a nice little club with a nice car park and a tidy little ground – perhaps Wycombe Wanderers. They aspire to be Norwich City. The family thing is big there. If they ever got to a cup final (presumably the Sherpa Van trophy, whatever that’s called these days) they would feed sugar lumps to police horses. Nerys Hughes likes Chatteris. Tim and Greg like Chatteris.
But semi finalist? Come off it.

I was going to give up voting after NSD’s loss at the hands of Chatteris, but I will continue in an ‘anyone but Chatteris’ way, it’s a sweet little tune but is basically a sarcastic whimsy is by no means HMHB’s best effort. I can’t even see why it made it out of its group

chatteris is my favorite choon to belt out in the shower, i have even been heard banging out 3 good butchers on the train with i pod on. Not many songs have that effect on me. Weavers cottages, one way systems, drive by shoutings on their way to Wembley.
