We Built This Village On A Trad. Arr. Tune
vs.
Joy Division Oven Gloves
Another local derby bound to raise some strong passions, between the second- and third-rated songs from the album which pulled the most votes in the group stages. There’s surely only a fag paper between them.
Result
We Built This Village On A Trad. Arr. Tune 120
vs.
Joy Division Oven Gloves 127

Hardest one yet for me so far, going for Trad Arr, by a knats knacker! ;-0

Got to disagree. JDOG by a mile, if only for the line “I play cricket fior the quakers…”

Trad Arr. purely for the enjoyment of singing along live.
And the line “Act one Scene One Brenda Blethyn gets shot”
Although on the other hand Gordon Burns is a North West News legend.
Hmm a bit more thought needed ….

Nero fiddles while Gordon Burns – fantastic. JDOG nicks it for me.

JDOG always seemed over hyped to me, and I think the group stage voting proved this the case. Got to be Village, not least for the brilliant “Check your sheds” line which always brings back the memories of when we lost our cat…

This is getting silly and starting to keep me awake. Winner of this will surely go all the way. Village for its proliferation of images? JDOGs for its head down, no nonsense delivery? Why is life so hard?

Ah, these bastard ties! Trad Arr. by a whisker.

JDOG – another perfect gift from the kids’ own handywork. A wonderful story rounded of with the selling of grandfather’s clock to gain the funds for the JDOGs stall.

although a little over exposed during the 6music malarkey JDOG is still one I enjoy immensely. It’s also led to those magical moments at gigs when you see some happy person dancing wearing oven gloves. Where else could you witness such a glorious sight?

TWO FAT FEET
I got tarred and feathered for saying this a year ago, but I always thought JDOG was vastly over-rated. I’ve warmed to it recently but although it sounds like a lot of good fun, it still sounds like something they might have done fifteen years earlier.
Trad Arr Tune is a fantastic song, there’s something about the Brenda Blethyn line which seals it. I don’t wish her any ill myself but the sheer bluntness of it is superb.

Still don’t know which tune to choose, but I’ve had to vote against two of my top 20 HMHB songs in the last 24 hours. JDOG & Trad. Arr. Tune are assuredly two reasons to get out of bed in the morning, and both have manifold charms, for slightly different reasons.
Agony. I’ll go with “Oven Gloves” on penalties, as “Trad. Arr.” clangs one off the crossbar to end the match.
Surely this was supposed to be fun. Won’t sleep tonight…..
The debate still rages on…

I always thought it was only me who thought JDOG was over hyped.
Trad. Arr. is a classy offering… Roll the square, Arthur!

The Bloomsbury peripheral takes this one – JDOG is OK but unfortunately for it, in this context, doesn’t contain the lines “Check your sheds I think I’ve lost my mind.”

JDOG is heads down no nonsense mindless boogie relative to Trad Arr which is lyrically superior & more tuney, in a trad arr sort of way.. ….and er..(extra time needed on this one)

Still have not decided. Village on penalties?

Easy one this – Trad Arr all the way

Oh for fuck’s sake, two of my favourite songs once again, I sense a bit of the old “warm balls” (or warm lLego figures).
Trad Arr by a very. very thin whisker.

Trad.Arr my VERY favourite of many” favourite ” Biscuit songs .
but JDOG would also be right up there too ,this is the one that as soon as the draw was made ITV and ESPN would be fighting over who to televise it live …the draw of the round
….again LOL

Got to be Trad Arr for the opening riff alone, never mind some of the best couplets.

Max Williams
Got to be the song that became synonymous with the “Save 6Music” campaign.

I’ve also always thought JDOG was overhyped, and wasn’t too happy that it was the song chosen for the 6music campaign.
Trad Arr is one of my favourites. One of the ones I listen to in the car.
Should be a no brainer for me but I’m struggling to send one out of the cup this early – both could reasonably have been expected to make the quarters.
Trad Arr on penalties. Great drama, and no pressure on the ref.

We hate it when our friends become successful. JDOG is a great song and is suffering from overhype, I’m still going to buy the first pair I see though. Still love Trad as well.

JDOG as its my 9 year olds favourite HMHB song

A tough choice – Trad Arr should win it just for the line Yonder the deacon in misguided trousers, however JDOG deserves it for the Dance Dance Dance Dance reference and the fact it mimics the bass line from Digital towards the end, not forgetting the line Nero fiddles while Gordon Burns.
However, for the sheer continuous onslaught of great lyrics it probably has to be Trad Arr.

As others seem to have said ad nueseum JDOG is way way way over over hyped hyped etc etc.

Yonder the deacon in misguided trousers!
Another vote for Trad. Arr.

Ferenc Puskás to you
Such a close one……Trad Arr is ahead late on, withstanding a hail of Oven Gloves from the Factory End, when the deacon runs on the pitch and…well, misguided or not deacon you should be keeping them on. The ref abandons the game and we’ll never know the real result, as Trad Arr is controversially awarded the game 3-0 by default.
