I was a Teenage Armchair Honved Fan
vs.
Vatican Broadside
Two songs which, judging from the comments, surprised a few people by getting through the qualifying stages. Well, wouldn’t you know it, one’s going through to the last 16. But which one?

I spent 8 (loooong) years in Budapest & visited the Honved ground. Shitehole does not begin to describe it, but the song gets my vote, as VB is more of an aside than a song…

TWO FAT FEET
Honved is another one where I can’t see how it made it this far, as it’s not even one of the best three tracks on the album, let alone worthy of inclusion in the overall last 32.
Broadside might be over before it’s even started but it deserves its place in our collective hearts.

Vatican Broadside for me, mainly for the joy I feel whenever I hear anyone mention ‘Slipknot’

At last an easy one, got to be Honved. Great live singalong VB may be, it just doesnt deserve to go further. (especially when you consider what may go out in this round)

Home win if just for the opening line which I have used extensively ever since.
Woke up this morning, found myself in bed

Honved, by virtue of being a proper song.
Have to say, this must be the weakest tie of the round. If it weren’t for their being drawn against each other, I think we’d be waving goodbye to both tunes at this stage.

TWO FAT FEET
Given that Vatican Broadside almost sneaked an automatic spot ahead of 23 Years in a VERY tough group, I wouldn’t dismiss it so easily just yet.

Protest vote for Broadside because Honved is just weak compared to almost all their other early stuff

“My knowledge of the blues is somewhat nil” and “Morphy Richards popped up with the goods” are great lines.
VB always makes me laugh.

Vatican…..no matter how many times you hear it,it always produces a smile.;)

VB for me, everytime. 30 seconds of joy

I’m of a similar opinion to others here, voting for Honved purely because it’s more of a ‘proper song’ without actually being a particular favourite of mine. I love VB but let’s face it, it’s just a modified footy chant of the type so beloved by our own dear Professor Exford, so for me this is another Arbroath v Bon Accord tie.

VB despite the shortness, just who the fu*k is slipknot?

I did vote Honved as I stated above, but I have to agree about its weakness amongst the giants of HMHB’s earlier releases. I can’t be arsed to check, but I think I’m right in saying (I applauded) they repeat “I was a teenage armchair Honved fan” 23 times at the end of the song. A tad lazy, some might say…

Not being pedantic or anything, but did the count of 23 include the “Wham Bam Thank You” variation?

VB, another tempter I use when preaching the gospel of the biscuit… Honved has some good lines… but it doesn’t lift the spirit in the same manner as VB, ergo Aussie Lager it is…

Vic Bitter certainly wouldn’t register a vote from me but Vatican Broadside… also certainly wouldn’t register a vote from me.
Nil-nil with 85 minutes gone and one bounces off a VB defender’s arse to put Honved through. Unimpressive, sure, but a win’s a win and you can only beat what’s put in front of you.

Vatican Broadside? Really?
You must be Ujpest Dozsa fans or something.

More Ferencvaros, I’d say. Nasty bunch, them…

This tie would be shown on C5 on a Thursday evening not quite Champions League stuff but watchable none the less(with the sound turned down to avoid all the drongoes and John Barnes)
However its Vatican Broadside for me just for the pure vitriol of the chant

Vatican – that track is the Julian Assange of HMHB tracks.

Ferenc Puskás to you
Despite the connection, I can’t do it. Not good enough.
