Outbreak of Vitas Gerulaitis
vs.
Monmore, Hare’s Running
On paper, the weakest tie of the whole round, as the 28th highest-polling song from the qualifying stages takes on the 25th. But still fine songs, and an agonising decision. Over to you.

Easy choice, despite missing out on my ski lodge.

Also easy for me, so lets stage a couldn’t-give-a-thon in celebration of one of HMHBs finest songs!! IMHO.

It’s a draw, I’m wating for extra-time and penalties. Seriously, these two cannot be separated.

Agonising all day over which to choose. Still can’t decide. Help!

“Flirt with brass, and later rue it.” Lovely line. That, and mention of Sass enough to tip the balance in Monmore’s favour.

dagenham dave
it’s Monmore for the ‘shit sellotape’ line.

TWO FAT FEET
Vitas for me. Symbolic as it announced their comeback by declaring that these guys really can play. Just sounds great. Monmore doesn’t sound like one of their most cohesive efforts to me. Good, but not great.

I love how easy one can search for HMHB songs on itunes (or wherever) as no other songs contain words like Vitus or Monmore in the titles. Cue examples of some that do…
Anyway, Monmore just for the “flirt with brass” line but the rampaging tune is also astonishing.

I can see the Monmore stadium from the train on my way tot he Bilston gigs, so let loose the hare…
I suspect I’m backing a loser though.

Going for Outbreak purely for the way Nigel pronounces the word “subsequently”.

Monmore every time – unless of course your lucky number is not seven.

These are actually two of my favourite songs. Probably the second toughest tie of the round for me (Trumpton Riots v Dukla Prague will be even harder for me to select one).

Shit sellotape and goths on bouncy castles does it for me!

Aye, it’s the sellotape reference, got to be. Probably my least favourite tie so far though, not my two favourites I’m afraid…

Ferenc Puskás to you
Excellent tune, Monmore. All the lines previously mentioned plus sabotaging the hot pot supper.

Has to be Vitas, not only because it’s marginally superior, but also because it always makes me think of one of the all-time classic sporting quotes issued by Mr Gerulaitis himself:
“And let that be a lesson to you all. Nobody beats Vitas Gerulaitis 17 times in a row.” — post-match conference after beating Jimmy Connors after Connors had beaten him 16 times in a row.

“Monmore” by a sliver, for the neo-mod-dissing section. Though the Kowalski reference in “Vitus” nearly edged it.

Agree with Dagenham Dave and other, Monmore has to win solely for the shit sellotape line.
