Both fine songs in their own right, but “Friday Night” must surely contain half of NB57’s best footy-related lines, all in one song. Utterly poignant for anyone who’s ever regularly watched football outside the “big four”.

TWO FAT FEET
Tough one to call in the Battle of Godcore, but Friday Night edges it as the superior-sounding song. And also having, in a roundabout way, given its name to the Lux Familiar Cup itself, it deserves our indulgence until such time as it comes up against a bona fide classic. Steel Hearts is amusing enough in its way with its quirky arrangement, but ultimately doesn’t hit the spot. Pity that Dead Men didn’t make it through for a football-based hat-trick.

I’m fuming at the lack of LDNT in the Cup, but this is one of my favourite ties. I’ve given my vote to FNATGAL, some great lines and references (particularly the rhyming of creche and Jeunesse D’Esch.) Still remember their performance of it on Danny Kelly’s Under the Moon, the best sports phone in TV show on channel 4 at midnight EVER.
Steel hearts is a beaut also, the line ‘Dock Road can lad on the end of a rope’ in particular.

Another all tme favourite (this is hard!!)
Friday Nights have the best opening verse to a song ever. “Icant stand anymore cos I cant stand anymore” makes me almost weep with its intricate simplicity ; summing up everything thats wrong with the modern game in one short phrase… will be hard to beat home or away in my book!

Tough one this. One the one hand, Steel Hearts is a great singalong, on the other Friday Night does indeed have some of the most poignant lines in the canon. Think i’m going to have to go for Friday night.

Was in the Main Stand the other day but it was more Tuesday night and the gate is high cos it’s free to get in.

Just realised that Dead Men wasn’t on that album. Don’t know why I thought that, ignore me.

Another vote for FNATGAL as it takes me back to my Friday nights watching the Rovers.

FNATGAL for me – eloquently and poignantly describes everything that’s wrong with Sky and the Premier League

Ah, the first difficult tie for me, and an inspired one!
Has to be Friday Night though on balance, if only for the brilliant quip about the loft conversion!

Oh this is heartbreaking. Friday Night by a gnat’s.

Steel Hearts, because it reminds me of the time a fox ran the length of the Craven Cottage pitch. No stupid statue in the way in those days.

Steel Hearts after much deliberation.

As I named my (now sadly neglected) non-league football blog after a lyric in Friday Night (Am I Supposed to be at Home), it would be remiss of me to not vote for it.

Well as someone who watches Ryman South football – none of your fancy dan League Two nonsense here – then both songs are pretty apt but Friday Night wins on account of it being miles better!

Has to be Friday Night as i’ve just read the lyrics and realised that ‘I can’t stand any more’ is followed by ‘cos I can’t stand any more’ wherein i had never realised the joke. Another effortless bit of wordplay.

Here in the Gulag we sing ” Even billionaire Oligarchs….” but the guards don’t like it. It is Nigel’s finest….

Trouble is, these days you never see a dog on the pitch.

When I supported the mighty Alloa Athletic nil in the late seventies, there was a railway embankment at one end of the ground, wherein dwelt a healthy population of rabbits, many of whom strayed onto the ptich, which was a bit different. We got dogs too, of course, probably following the scent of the aforementioned bunnies.

Just realised… as The Lux Familiar Cup is spawned from the lyrics of FNATGAL, does this mean that every tie is effectively a “home ” tie for them?

Ferenc Puskás to you
Steel Hearts makes it desperately close with that brilliant trombone (I think?) but it’s Friday night here in Colorado and Friday Night has always been considered a classic in the Puskás household.
