vs.
Bob Wilson – Anchorman
A fastest loser, and only 22nd-highest polling song from the qualifying stages, against a triumphant group winner. But stacked up against each other, are they that far apart?

Love both but think it has to be Bob Wilson as it so expressed something that I thought I was the only one to think. I really did think the rest of the world had gone mad if they couldn’t see how totally and utterly inept he was at presenting.
Sometimes Nigel observes the things that no one else can spot and other times he encapsulates so perfectly the zeitgeist. This was neither but I bloody love it.

Has to be Bob. 4AD3DCD is okay but not a classic. Bob Wilson showcases what was by now becoming an extraordinary talent for poetry.

‘Bob Wilson…’ for me, one of my top 10 Biscuit numbers.

Always gets the moshpit going crazy when played live, so it has to be Bob Wilson for me…

Another tricky one. Great tunes both. Bob the poetry, 4AD the chorus. Oh the agony

I love the eerie madrigals on the campus egg slicer but Jim Rosenthal by the Wailing Wall clinches it.

Definitely going for Robert Primrose Wilson – song got a mention from Eleanor Oldroyd on Radio 5 the other day too.

Got to be Bob for me too, classic tune. Love it!

A second vote against This Leaden Pall for me, what’s going on?

Didn’t much care for Bob Wilson at first so why I’m voting for it is beyond me. Hopefully it’ll stop me getting burned as a heretic.

Can I repeat my earlier howl of anguish about how I’d barely recovered from “And now here’s the Culture Show with Lauren Laverne” when “Robbie Savage- pundit” was invented.
I would though love to hear a pre match dressing room motivational speech by Alan Shearer in his Newcastle manager days ….or was that hours?
So I sort of have a sort of soft spot for Bob Wilson and his funfairs.

Its raining soup and I’ve got a fork. Haven’t we all felt like that at some point in our lives, but haven’t been able to put it into words?

After little consideration Mr Wilson…

Ferenc Puskás to you
Well, looks like Bob’s running away with it.
So as the owner of an embarrassingly large volume of “Love Froth Tuesday”-style 4AD vinyl from the glorious days of the (not-identical) Cocteau Twins, Dif Juz, This Mortal Coil, 23 Envelope artwork, etc……I’ll dangle a chad for 4AD3DCD.

tomasz.
I don’t know who Bob Wilson even is, so “4AD…” methinks.

Tomasz, Bob Wilson is a former Arsenal (and England I think?) goalkeeper who became the lead presenter (i.e. anchor man) of a TV football show. He has all the charisma and personality of a fencepost and is thus entirely unsuitable for such a position.
Now you know. 😆

Robert Primrose Wilson was a Scottish international, but only for about half an hour.

Thanks TFF, I knew he played at international level for somebody or other. He must have taken some stick for that middle name though!
Whilst Googling him I discovered there was another goalie called Bob Wilson in the same era who played for Aston Villa, Cardiff City, Bristol City and Exeter, but didn’t go on to have a career in broadcasting or get an OBE like his namesake. Nor did his son-in-law die from eating a dodgy corned beef sandwich. Amazing what you can discover on the electric interweb, innit?
